She began his career playing in soap operas, starting with Zameen Se Aassman Tak, directed by Aruna Irani . She made her debut at the age of 19 in Bengal Salam's Bengali film, released in 2005. She joined the film industry in South India with Tamil film Kokki. The film received moderate criticism and was successful at the box office.

Career

Gandhi received the Filmfare award for best actress Kannada and the Suvarna Fimfare award for best actress for her performance at Dandupalya. The film was dubbed into Telugu and released under the name of Dandupalyam. She was well received in Andhra Pradesh. A Tamil duo entitled Karimedu was produced by Sri Thenandal Films by Rama Narayanan and broadcast on May 24, 2013, with critical acclaim. he was hit in Tamil Nadu.  The film was dubbed in Malayalam and was titled Kuruthikalam. Gandhi joined the Janata Dal (Secular) party (JDS) on January 18, 2012.She then briefly joined the KJP, but she eventually challenged the 2013 elections to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in Raichur on a BSR Congress ticket.
