|Padma Lakshmi is an author, actress, model, animator and American producer. Her first recipe book, Easy Exotic, earned her the "Best First Book" award at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in 1999. She has hosted the American reality TV show Top Chef since season two. 2006, for which she received a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding guest for a reality or reality contest program. In 2010, Top Chef won the Emmy Award for its outstanding competition program. Her first memoirs, Love, Loss and What We Ate, were released on International Women's Day on March 8, 2016.

|Lakshmi's modeling career begins at age 21. During her studies abroad in Madrid, she was discovered by an agent in a café. She said, "I was the first Indian model to make a career in Paris, Milan and New York, and I am the first to admit that I was new." Lakshmi was able to pay her college loans by working as a model and actress.
Lakshmi published a column in the New York Times and wrote articles on the style of the American edition of Vogue, commissioned by Anna Wintour. She also wrote a style column for Harper's Bazar (British and American editions), commissioned by editor Glenda Bailey.
In 2009, Lakshmi played in the video of the song Eels "That Look You Give That Guy", interpreting the love interest of Mark Oliver Everett.
