She belongs to a family of Indian immigrants and her maternal uncle, Prakash Sharma, is a Dogri folk music singer. She made a guest appearance in Abhishek Kapoor’s film ‘Rock On’ in 2008. She is a jury member of India's first English music show, The Stage. She hosted four seasons of the music-Docu series " She in 2010, sang her first Hindi song ‘Dooriyan Bhi Hain Zaroori’ along with Vishal Dadlani in the film Break Ke Baad. She was featured on the cover of Maxim India Magazine in March 2013 and May 2015. She was featured on the cover page of FHM Magazine. In addition to that, in 2015. She served as one of the judges in ‘The Stage’, India’s first English singing reality show in March 2014. She also sang a song "Dooriyan Bhi Hai Zaroori" with Vishal Dadlani in the movie Break Ke Baad  and the theme song in English (with Shahid Mallya) for the movie Inkaar.

Career

Monica Dogra is the daughter of the Dogra immigrants from Jammu. His maternal uncle is the folk music singer Dogri Prakash Sharma. She grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. [Citation needed] She attended Oakleigh Elementary School, Montessori Elementary School, and Dulaney High School. [Citation needed] She attended NYU, graduating with a BA in Musical Theater. In 2005, she formed  the electronic rock band "Shaa'ir + Func", with the guitarist Randolph Correia. In 2007, they released their first album New Day: The Love Album, followed by Light Tribe in 2008 and Mantis in 2010.  She made her acting debut with an appearance in Rock On !!. In 2008, she was approached by Kiran Rao for the lead role in Rao's first directorial film, Dhobi Ghat - a role initially rejected by Dogra, but finally accepted.
