Patel's first opportunity to act came in the form of an offer from his father's comrade Rakesh Roshan to play with his son Hrithik Roshan at Kaho Naa ... Pyaar Hai (2000). The offer came immediately after she graduated from high school, but she turned down the project because she wanted to continue her studies in the United States. Subsequently, Kareena Kapoor replaced her, but fortunately Kapoor gave up a few days in the main photograph and Patel had another opportunity to do so at a family lunch.
Between 2003 and 2006, Patel's acting career entered a critical phase. After the relative success of Humraaz, his series of unsuccessful films followed and will continue until 2006. In 2003, his only films are the Tamil-language film Pudhiya Geethai and the Hindi film Parwana by Deepak Bahry.
In 2013, Patel returned to Hindi cinema with a special appearance in the second Abbas-Mustan race, replacing Sameera Reddy by Anil Kapoor's ditzy assistant. Although the film was criticized, it was a box office success. She followed with a lead role alongside Neil Nitin Mukesh in Shortcut Romeo, a Hindi remake of the 2006 Tamil hit, Thiruttu Payale. The film opened to mixed reviews and misbehaved at the box office. In October 2018, she will appear opposite Sunny Deol in the comedy action Bhaiyyaji Superhitt, in preparation since 2012.
