She  is an Indian actress originally from Goa, who has worked in various Bollywood and Marathi films as a leading woman. She was the most popular actress in Marathi cinema in the 1990s. She appeared in 1982 for the first time as the main heroine in the Marathi super-series, Brahmachari. Subsequently, she quickly became one of the best heroines of Marathi cinema with super-successes such as Gammat Jammat, Hamal De Dhamal, Saglikade Bombabomb, Sawat Majhi Ladki, Shejari Shejari, Ek Hota Vidushak, Lapandaav and Aflatoon.

Career

She has also acted as lead actress in Bollywood films, Ghar Aaya Mera Pardesi and Pathreela Raasta. In 2005, she appeared in Bollywood films Mangal Pandey: The Rising and Mr. Ya Miss as a support actress. In the controversial Hindi film directed by Faisal Saif, Jigyaasa, she played the mother to Hrishitaa Bhatt. One of her most memorable performances came from the television series Jhansi Ki Rani in the 1990s on Doordarshan, where she starred Rani Lakshmibai.Usgaonkar also sang in a Konkani music album, Roop Tujem Laita Pixem, with Ulhas Buyao.
