She is an Indian actress. She has appeared in more than 200 films in Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. and over the years, it has become a cult movie with a wide audience.  She began acting at the age of 15, after winning a beauty contest in Andhra Pradesh in 1979. After her photos started circulating in magazines, producer D. Ramanaidu showed interest in her film. in 1979.  She made her Tamil cinema debut with Thisai Maariya Paravaigal (1979). She was named the best new face after the movie. Its entry to Kannada was made by Ravichandra in front of Rajkumar. She entered Telugu by Samajaniki Saval (1979) and Malayalam by Moorkhan (1980). She has appeared in numerous Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films early in her career. Besides Rati Agnihotri, she was Rajinikanth's second heroine in films like Murattu Kaalai and Kazhugu.

Career

She was the heroine of the legendary film by Malaysian actor Jayan Kolilakkam (1981). In her Malayalam entry movie, Moorkhan, she acted as Jayan's second heroine. His most memorable Malayalam films are Thazhvaram, Isabella, Nirakkoottu, Thoovanathumbikal, Parampara and New Delhi. She was awarded Best Actress Nandi for her role in Shrutilayalu in 1987. She is a close friend of actress Suhasini Maniratnam, her co-star in a Telugu film. The friendship between the two provided the material for a frank scene in the film, when director Kodandarami Reddy noticed that Suhasini was combing Sumalatha's long hair during the train trip to the set. Reddy asked his cameraman, Ashok Reddy, to film both and added the scene to the last cut of the film.
