She is known for her roles in Doghi, Deool, Dil Chahta Hai, Singham and Taxi No. 9211. Kulkarni was born in Pune, Maharashtra. Her father is an engineer and she has two brothers: Sandeep and Sandesh. She graduated from Abhinava Vidyalaya and graduated from Ferguson College, where she specialized in political science and obtained a scholarship in Marathi literature. Career
Sonali Kulkarni made her first appearance on screen in a Kannada film entitled Cheluvi, directed by Girish Karnad. She has appeared in numerous films, including an Italian film called Fuoco Su di Me, for which she won an award at the Milan International Film Festival in 2006.She received a special (non-featured) jury award at the 49th National Film Awards (2002) for her role in a short film in Marathi; Chaitra. In addition to acting, she was editor-in-chief of Viva, a supplement of the daily Marathi Loksatta, from June 2005 to May 2007. She wrote a weekly column entitled "So Kool". The columns are published in Rajahansa Prakashan's book So Kool. At the end of this book, actress Nana Patekar said, "Every time I read her articles, I feel like she is talking to me - there is so much simplicity in her writing." Kulkarni showed off her dancing skills during the second season of the celebrity dance competition Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa on Sony TV.She has also worked with Doordarshan and directed films such as Gulabari in 1994 in Hindi which was broadcast in 1995 and Kata Rute Kunala in 1996 in Marathi.
