She entered the industry as an actress  and was noted for her role as "Silk" in the 1979 Tamil film Vandichakkaram. She entered the industry as an actress  and was noted for her role as "Silk" in the 1979 Tamil film Vandichakkaram. She became a major sex symbol and the most sought after erotic actress in the world. 1980s. She  began as a retouching artist for an actress and quickly had a break in the roles of little character. She was discovered by Vinu Chakravarthy, director of a flour mill near the AVM studios. She changed his name to Smitha and took it under his wing; his wife taught him English and arranged that she learn to dance, although soon, because of her marked sex appeal. She changed to roles of cabaret dancers and vamps. After gaining much praise and success with his first major role in the Tamil film Vandichakkaram  in 1979. She took the screen name "Silk" after the name of his character in the film . After it became a big hit, she could not escape serial broadcasting, severely limiting her reach throughout her career.

Career

Smitha was born into a Telugu family in Ramallu and Sarasamma in Eluru. She left school after her fourth level (in India, about 10 years old) due to financial constraints of the family. Her striking looks prevented her from attracting attention, and her family married her very young. When she was abused by her husband and in-laws, she fled to Madras (now Chennai) and started living with an aunt. Smitha continued to play in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and some Hindi films. His dance numbers and daring performances in films like Moondru Mugam have made it the ultimate symbol of sensuality in South Indian cinema. His feature numbers in such films as Amaran, Hallimeshtru (in Kannada) were also box office. Some film critics, historians and journalists have called her an actress of "sweet porn".
