|Bhanurekha Ganesan better known by her stage name Rekha, is an Indian actress. Known for her versatility and recognized as one of the best actresses in Indian cinema, Rekha began her career in 1966 as a children's actress in the Rangula Ratnam telugu film. . Despite the success of many of her early films, she was often criticized for her appearance and it was not until the mid-1970s that she was recognized as an actress.
She has won three Filmfare Awards, two for best actress and one for best supporting actress, for her respective roles in Khubsoorat (1980), Khoon Bhari Maang (1988) and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996). Her portrayal of a classic courtesan in Umrao Jaan (1981) earned her the National Film Award for Best Actress. Although her career has experienced periods of decline, she has reinvented herself several times and has been recognized for her ability to maintain her status.In 2010, the Indian government awarded him the Padma Shri .

|Rekha appeared as a child (credited as Baby Bhanurekha) in the movie Telugu Rangula Ratnam (1966). Rekha made her debut as a heroine in Kannada's hit film Operation Jackpot Nalli C.I.D 999 with Rajkumar in 1969. The same year, she played in her first Hindi film, Anjana Safar. She later claimed that she had been dragged into a kissing scene with leading actor Biswajit for the foreign market and that the kiss had been published in the Asian edition of Life magazine .The film faces problems of censorship and will only be released a decade later, in 1979 (renamed Do Shikaari).
In the 2000s, Rekha appeared in relatively few films. She started the decade with Bulandi, directed by Rama Rao Tatineni. The other was Zubaidaa of Khalid Muhammad, with Karisma Kapoor and Manoj Vajapayee playing the king's first wife, Maharani Mandira Devi.In 2001, Rekha appeared in Rajkumar Santoshi's feminist drama, Lajja, a play inspired by the case of a woman raped in Bawanipur two years earlier. The film follows the story of a woman on the run (Manisha Koirala) and reveals her story in three main chapters, each presenting the story of a woman she stops with. "I am Lajja and Lajja is me".
