P. Samuthirakani (born April 26, 1973) is an Indian actor and director who works mainly in the Tamil film industry, in addition to appearing in several Malayalam films. He worked as assistant director K Balachander. Its director Naadodigal in 2009 was a hit runaway, which was then redone in three languages. He has also appeared in several films and is best known for his performances in Subramaniapuram, Easan (both directed by M Sasikumar), Saattai and Oppam. He won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2016 for Visaranai.

He is an Indian film actor and director who predominantly works in the Tamil film industry besides appearing in a number of Malayalam and Telugu films. He worked as an assistant to director K Balachander.  His 2009 directorial Naadodigal was a runaway hit. He initially had to work as an assistant director, and then he finally got the chance in acting.he joined as an assistant director under K. Vijayan. He who always used to keep himself busy with work was noticed by K. Balachander and was roped in as assistant director for his 100th film Paarthale Paravasam. He also assisted Balachander in the mega-serial Anni telecasted by Jaya TV.  He also had the opportunity to work as an assistant to Balachander in the Anni mega-series televised by Jaya TV. His performance in Vetrimaaran's Visaranai (2016) fetched him the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 63rd National Film Awards.

Career

Samuthirakani studied B.Sc. (Mathematics), Rajapalayam Rajus College, and Bachelor of Laws from Ambedkar Law College, Chennai. Samuthirakani entered the cinema with the dream of becoming an actor. "People have said that I do not have the appearance or the physique for that. I was unfazed. "Insults are part of life," I said to myself and persevered. So when did he finally have the opportunity to coat the greaser? "Padikkira Vayasu from Pandiarajan in which I had only one sentence to say, and to sneak into the scene, I had to cringe and crawl in front of the assistant director!" Not a shade of self-pity! "Why not, slights can not hold me back." In 1997, he joined as deputy director under K Vijayan. Samuthirakani, who was always used to standing at work, was noticed by Iyakkunar Sigaram K Balachander and was hired as assistant director for his 100th film Parthaale Paravasam.  The director recalls that the work experience he gained under the direction of his mentor Balachander helped him in many ways during the filming of Arasi and Selvi, the television mega-series of Sun TV, which massively beaten by housewives. And it was then that he began to write scenes and dialogues that he would stage in the confines of his room. Soon, he led to the discovery that in him was a capable storyteller.
