|Raj Chakraborty (Bengali: born in 1975) is an Indian director and actor based in Tollywood. A middle-class family member, he was born in Halisahar, West Bengal. He is a graduate of Rishi Bankim Chandra Colleges, Naihati. He is one of Tollywood's most successful filmmakers.
Before making his first film, he was busy at Bengali TV. Raj Chakraborty was associated with Mir's popular show of laughter, Zee Bangla, Mir, and the Dance Bangla Dance contest, judged by Mithun Chakraborty, in their early days.
He also directed Star Jalsha's laughter program, I Laugh You, by assisting mega serial maker Arindam Dey. He went solo with the TV movie Noder Chaand after helping Dey for a few years.

He has made 18 TV movies since. Raj's biggest project on the small screen was with the hit comedy Mirakkel, which airs on Zee Bangla.
Raj Chakraborty was born on February 21, 1975 in Halisahar, a small town in West Bengal. He comes from a lower middle-class family of five members. He has two sisters who are married and settled. His father, Shree Krishnashankar Chakraborty, worked at Rishi Bankim Chandra Colleges.
Her mother Shreemati Leela Chakraborty was a housewife and, according to Raj, she was her inspiration, her criticism, her fear, her pride and the heart of the family.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from RBC College, Naihati, Raj began his career as an actor in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal.
Raj has been a theater person active since his school years. After a disagreement with his parents, he left home to settle in Calcutta and pursue his dream of acting. When he was unable to obtain satisfactory roles, he changed his plans and decided to become a director. He was recruited as assistant director by director Arindam Dey (popularly known as Mamdo Da) in 2000.
After six years of association, hard work, training and dedication, Raj directed his first TV movie called Noder Chaand. It was a success, and he followed it with a series of many TV movies, talk shows, non-fiction reality shows, which gave a wide audience to the channels. Raj Chakraborty was a key member of the crews of iconic regional TV series like Mirakkel and Dance Bangla Dance. He has contributed to the evolution of Bengali entertainment television.
Raj Chakraborty entered the film industry of Kolkata as a director by directing Chirodini Tumi Je Amar in 2008.
The film featured newcomers Rahul and Priyanka. Jeet Ganguly was attached to compose the music of the film. The songs in the film were an instant hit at the exit, especially among young people. The film received a mixed response from critics, but broke all box office records.
The film had an outstanding run in cinemas and, at that time, was one of Tollywood's most profitable films. Jeet Ganguly received the award for best music for this film. This film was the turning point in the careers of all those who worked there.
Raj has introduced talents (both in the game and music) that will become familiar names among the Bengalis to the Bengali film industry. Actors like Priyanka, Rahul, Rittika, Bonny, Koushani, Nusrat and Rukmini made their debut through the prism of Chakraborty.
He has contributed to the successful career of such actors as Dev, Subhashree, Soham, Mimi Chakraborty, Payel Sarkar and Sayani Ghosh.
