| Abhishek Bachchan (born February 5, 1976) is an Indian actor, producer and performer known for his works in Bollywood and Bengali cinema. As part of the Bachchan family, he is the son of actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. Bachchan made his acting debut in 2000 with J.P. Dutta's war film Refugee. This was followed by more than a dozen films that were both critical and commercial catastrophes. His first commercial success came with the 2004 action movie Dhoom, which changed his career prospects. Bachchan subsequently gained critical acclaim for his performances in such films as Yuva (2004), Sarkar (2005) and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), which earned him three consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actor. In 2007, he played "Gurukant Desai", a character based on Dhirubhai Ambani in Mani Ratnam Guru's dramatic film, which earned him a nomination for the Best Actor Filmfare Award. |

Bachchan has also appeared in several blockbuster films such as Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Dus, (2005), Bluffmaster! (2005), Dostana (2008), Bol Bachchan (2012), Dhoom 3 (2013), Happy New Year (2014) and Housefull 3 (2016). In addition to three Filmfare Awards, Bachchan won the national award for best feature film in Hindi for the production of the family comedy Paa (2009). His grandfather, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was a renowned poet of the literary movement Nayi Kavita of Hindi literature and professor at Allahabad University of Uttar Pradesh, while his grandmother, Teji Bachchan, was a social activist. The original surname of his family is Srivastava, Bachchan being the pen name used by his grandfather. However, when Amitabh went into the movies, he did so under his father's pseudonym. Bachchan is from Kayastha's heritage on his father's side, Bengali on his mother's side and Punjabi on his paternal grandmother's side - who moved from Faisalabad to Mumbai before the partition of India. Bachchan has appeared in more than 50 films in both senior and minor roles. His game has always been critically acclaimed and loved by the public, but many of his films have failed for many reasons.
