Career
Ghai began his career in Hindi cinema as an actor with small roles in films including Taqdeer and Aradhana. He was the male leader in the 1970s Umang, and Gumraah. His first achievement was the Kalicharan film he got thanks to a recommendation from Shatrughan Sinha. In 2016, he wrote and directed a total of 16 films.
In the 1980s and '90s, he formed a successful collaboration with Dilip Kumar, which he directed in Vidhaata, Karma and Saudagar, the latter for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Director.
