Muhammad Kutty Paniparambil Ismail (born September 7, 1951), better known by his stage name Mammootty is an Indian actor and producer who works in the Malayalam cinema. During a four-decade career, he has participated in more than 350 films. Mammootty was a lawyer by profession. Having established himself as a leading actor in the 1980s, his major breakthrough came with the commercial success of the 1987 film New Delhi. He won three Best Actor National Awards, seven Kerala State Film Awards and thirteen Filmfare Awards. South. In a career spanning four decades, he has acted in over 400 films, mainly in Malayalam, with several in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English. He made his debut in the 1971 film Anubhavangal Paalichakal, directed by K. S. Sethumadhavan. His second film was Kaalachakram, a 1973 Malayalam film directed by K. Narayanan. Mammootty is the president of Malayalam Communications, which runs Malayalam TV channels Kairali TV, People TV and WE TV. He is also the goodwill ambassador for the Akshaya project, the first cyber-literacy project in India. He is the godfather of the Pain and Palliative Care Society, a charitable organization established in Kerala to improve the quality of life of patients with advanced cancer. He has also worked with the Kozhikode Center for Palliative and Pain Care in India. Mammootty was born Muhammad Kutty Ismail Paniparambil on September 7, 1951 in Chandiroor, Alappuzha District, and grew up in the village of Chempu near Vaikom in the Kottayam district of present-day Kerala, India, in a family.
