Jasjit Singh Gill, better known as Jimmy Shergill, is an Indian actor and producer who works in Hindi and Punjabi films.Shergill began her acting career in 1996 with the film Maachis based on the Khalistan movement. Jimmy Shergill was born into a Punjabi sikh family in the village of Deokahia, Sardarnagar, Gorakhpur district, Uttar Pradesh. He comes from a family of landowners and distillers, and his great paternal aunt was the famous Indian painter Amrita Sher-Gil. Amrita Sher-Gil is from the famous Majithia family of Punjab. He studied at St. Francis College, Lucknow for a few years, then moved to his home Punjab, the place of his ancestors, in 1985. He studied at the Public Punjab. School, Nabha and Bikram College, Punjabi University, Patiala.

He began her acting career in 1996 with Gulzar's critically acclaimed film Maashis, based on terrorism in Punjab. The film has done quite well at the box office and has been noted by all the best filmmakers in the industry, which has led to being thrown in Aditya Chopra's Mohabbatein alongside followers like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai. He also worked with rising star Amisha Patel in Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar. He won the Star Guild Awards previously known as the Apsara Guild Awards for Best Actor in a supporting role for a film A Wednesday. He has always earned rave reviews for all his performances in such films as Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai , Haasil, Munna Bhai MBBS , Yahaan , Lage Raho Munnabhai , Eklavya : The Royal Guard , A Wednesday , My Name is Khan , Tanu Weds Manu , Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster, Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns, Special 26 , Bullett Raja, Fugly  and Tanu Weds Manu Returns. He started playing in Punjabi Films in 2005 with Yaaran Naal Baharan of Manmohan Singh, who did well at the box office. He continued to play in several other Punjabi films.  He plans to produce and act in a Punjabi film every year, for which he signed an agreement with Bollywood production house Eros International. His first film as a producer, Dharti, released in 2011 and did well at the box office. The next production of his company was Taur Mittran Di, which was released in May 2012. He has lined up two other films for production; Saadi Love Story, in which he plays Diljit Dosanjh, Amrinder Gill, Neetu Singh, Surveen Chawla and himself in a cameo and another film called Rangeelay, which puts him in the lead with Neha Dhupia.
