Amitabh Bachchan was born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, in central North India. His ancestors on his father's side came from a village called Babupatti, in Tehsil of Raniganj, in the district of Pratapgarh, in present-day Uttar Pradesh, India. His father Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was an Awadhi dialect - a Hindi poet and a Hindu, while his mother, Teji Bachchan, was Sikh. Bachchan was originally named Inquilaab, inspired by the term Inquilab Zindabad popularly used during the struggle for Indian independence. |

Career
Bachchan made his film debut in 1969 as a narrator in Mr.inal Sen's award-winning film Bhuvan Shome. His first role was one of the seven protagonists of the film Saat Hindustani, directed by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas and starring Utpal Dutt, Anwar Ali, Madhu and Jalal Agha. Anand followed, in which Bachchan played alongside Rajesh Khanna. His role as a physician with a cynical view of life earned Bachchan his first Filmfare Best Supporting Actor award. He then played his first antagonistic role as a lovers lover who became a murderer in Parwana. In 1972, he made an appearance in the comedy of Bombay road action in Goa directed by S. Ramanathan who was moderately successful. Many of Bachchan's films during this early period did not work well, but that was about to change. Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan in 2013; the couple married in 1973 after the liberation of Zanjeer. Bachchan struggled, seen as a "failed newcomer" who, at the age of 30, had twelve flops and only two hits. Bachchan was quickly discovered by the screenwriting duo Salim-Javed, composed of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. Salim Khan wrote Zanjeer's story, screenplay and screenplay, and designed the character of "angry young man" in the lead role. Javed Akhtar came as a co-author, and Prakash Mehra, who saw the potentially revolutionary script, as director of the film. Salim Khan introduced Bachchan to Prakash Mehra, and Salim-Javed insisted that Bachchan be chosen for this role Zanjeer was a crime movie with violent action, in stark contrast to the fictional-themed movies that had usually preceded him, and he established Amitabh in a new character - the "angry young man" of Bollywood cinema. |
