Biography

Ritu Chaudhry was born in Darjeeling to a Marathi father and a mother of Nepali origin from Darjeeling.

She attended Dow Hill in Kurseong up to class X and later moved to Loreto College in Darjeeling. Originally in the 1990s, after winning Miss India, she appeared in TV commercials, the most famous of which was for Pepsi with Aamir Khan and Aishwarya Rai.

She was a VJ on music channels, where she was noticed by Subhash Ghai. Subhash Ghai gave him a break in the film Pardes, which was released in 1997.

The film has been successful and has won numerous awards, including the Filmfare award for best debut.

She met Indian tennis player Leander Paes before breaking up with him because of her affair with Rhea Pillai, who was then married.

She married businessman Bobby Mukherji in 2006. She has an eight year old daughter Ariana from her marriage. But things did not go as she had planned. She separated from Mukherji in 2013.
