Vinaya Prasad, also known as Vinaya Prakash, is a popular film and television actress in southern India. She has mainly played in Kannada and Malayalam films, in addition to playing in a few films in Tamil and Telugu. She won the State Award for Best Actress for her performances in Aathanka (1993) and Bannada Hejje (2001). The eldest actress of her career shared screen space with Chiranjeevi, Vishnuvardhan, Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Ambareesh, Venkatesh, Ananth Nag, Akkineni Nagarjuna, V. Ravichandran, Shivrajkumar, Mahesh Babu, Jr. NTR and others .


Vinaya Prasad is from the Udupi district of the state of Karnataka. Vinaya made her acting debut with a small role in G V Iyer's Madhwacharya in 1988. She worked in smaller character roles before playing the main lady in Ganeshana Maduve against Anant Nag. The film was a huge success and she continued to play in more than 60 films not only Kannada but also Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu. Vinaya is from the Udupi district of Karnataka and grew up in Udupi. She is a Brahmin from Karhade. She is married to Jyotiprakash who runs television series. Vinaya was married earlier to V.R.K Prasad, an award-winning director and editor of Kannada films that expired in 1995 at a young age. She married Jyotiprakash, a former widower, in 2002. Vinaya has an elder sister Vijaya Satyanarayana and her twin sisters Kshama Bhat and Kripa Bhat. His brother Ravi Bhat is in the television industry as an actor. Vinaya currently resides in Bangalore with her husband Jyotiprakash and her daughter Prathama Prasad. Jyotiprakash has a son named Jai Atre who is also filming direction and screen writing in Mumbai.
