Gopika (born August 26, 1984 as Girly Anto) is an Indian movie actress, who played mainly in Malayalam films. From her modeling career, she ventured to play with the film Pranayamanithooval (2003). She then appeared in more than 35 films, also working in the Tamil, Telugu and Kannada industries. She is well known for her role in Autograph, directed by Cheran


Gopika was born 'Girly Anto' in a Syrian Christian family, to Anto Francis and Tessy Anto d'Ollur in Thrissur, Kerala. She has a younger sister, Glini. After completing her 12th year (Grade 12) studies at Convent Girls High School in St. Raphael, Ollur, she studied sociology at Calicut University. She also learned classical dance from a renowned teacher, Kamalher, and was crowned "Miss College" at her farewell ceremony at college. The beauty contest 'Miss Thrissur' was a turning point in her life. Although she did not win the title, she was a finalist in the contest, which earned her some modeling assignments. She claims she never wanted to be an actress, and her ambition was to be an air hostess.


Her first film was Pranayamanithooval, in which she played with Jayasurya and Vineeth under the direction of Thulasi Das, did not do well, but got her recognition in the industry. His second film, The People, was a blockbuster and was dubbed in many Indian languages. It was directed by Jayaraj, and she acted in front of actor Tamil Bharath. The song "Lejjavathiye Ninde Kalla Kadaikkannil" of the film was a great success in Kerala. The renowned Tamil filmmaker Cheran recruited her for her film Autograph, which was another great success in 2004. She also starred in Kana Kandaen.

Among her other works, she has starred in the film Kannada Kanasina Loka and Telugu's remake of Azhagi. His film Telugu Leta Manasulu, directed by Raju Upati, crashed at the box office. She played in the film Malayalam Kirtichakra in front of Jiiva. Directed by Major Ravi, the film tells the story of a soldier in the context of the Kargil War. Outside of Kirtichakra, she made another film with Dileep: Pachakuthira. His previous film with Dileep, Chanthupottu, was a great success. Veruthe Oru Bharya was a phenomenal success, and she won the award for best Asian actress of 2008.

Private life

On 17 July 2008, Gopika married Ajilesh Chacko, a doctor working in Northern Ireland. She returned to the movie industry after the wedding, acting in Swantham Lekhakan and says she will act in more movies if she gets good opportunities and likes the script. She says her husband does not laugh at her and she gets a lot of support from her and her family. They have a daughter Amy and a son Aiden. Gopika made a return to the Malayalam cinema in Bharya Athra Pora with Jayaram, directed by Akku Akbar. She now lives in Brisbane, Australia
