Yuvan Shankar Raja (born August 31, 1979) is an Indian singer-songwriter, songwriter and songwriter, and an occasional songwriter from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He mostly marked music for Tamil films. The youngest son of the greatest Tamil film composer Ilaiyaraaja, he began his musical career in 1996, at the age of 16, when he composed the film score for Aravindhan. After the initial struggle, he made his big break with the soundtrack of Thulluvadho Ilamai (2001) and evolved as one of the most sought after composers of Tamil cinema in the mid-2000s.
Within 15 years, Yuvan Shankar Raja has worked on more than 100 films. Considered a versatile composer. He is best known for his use of western music elements and often credited with introducing Hip Hop into the Tamil film and music industry and having started the era of remixes in Tamil Nadu.
He has won two Filmfare awards; Best Music Producer Award in 2004 for his score in the drama 7G Rainbow Colony and the Filmfare Special Award - South in 2009 for his musical Telugu Oy !. In addition, he received six Filmfare nominations, two Tamil Nadu Film Awards in 2006 and 2010, and the 2006 Cyprus International Film Festival Award for Raam, becoming the only Indian composer to win it.
Born on 31 August 1979, in Tamil Nadu, Tamil Nadu in Tamil family, Yuvan Shankar Raja is the third and youngest child of musician and film composer Ilaiyaraaja and his late wife Jeeva. He is the younger brother of music director Karthik Raja and singer-cum-music director Bhavatharini. Karthik Raja is one of the most successful and most successful artists in the world. His father and his siblings are sung many songs under his direction.Film director and film composer Gangai Amaran and RD Bhaskar are his uncles and their sons Venkat Prabhu, Premgi Amaren and Parthi Bhaskar, who are working in the Tamil film industry as well , are his cousins.
Yuvan Shankar did his schooling at St. Bede's Anglo Indian High School in Chennai,
and discontinued his education after his tenth class. He started learning music from Jacob Master,
attending piano classes at "Musical Museum" in Chennai, which is affiliated to Trinity College in London, UK. Yuvan Shankar Raja married his girlfriend Sujaya Chandran on March 21, 2005, to Mayor Sri Ramanathan Chettiyar Hall in Chennai, India. Yuvan had met her in 2002 as a fan of a cultural music program in London and both fell in love later. Sujaya was a London-based singer and the daughter of Dr. C. R. Velayutham and Dr. Sarojini Chandran. They had a secret registered marriage in September 2003 in London before the official public marriage was organized in 2005 with the consent of their parents. In August 2007, they sought divorce with mutual consent, granted in February 2008, after 6 months. The reason for the divorce was cited as "irreconcilable differences".
On 1 September 2011 he married Shilpa Mohan at the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh on 1 September 2011. The wedding took place in a simple ceremony with only family members and close friends present. Shilpa was revealed to be a graduate of B. Pharm from the University of Adelaide, Australia. A wedding reception was organized one day later in Chennai.
