Ayushmann Khurrana was noticed on television at the age of 17. It was the reality show on Channel V; PopStars in 2002. He was one of the youngest competitors in the show. Roadies took place in 2004 where he turned out to be the winner of Roadies 2 at the age of 20. After graduating with a degree in journalism, he first worked as a radio jockey at BIG FM in Delhi.
He hosted the show Big Chai - Maan Na Maan, the main Tera Ayushmann and also won the Young Achievers Award in 2007 for that. He was the youngest recipient of the Bharat Nirman Award in New Delhi. After the radio, Khurrana became a Video Jockey on MTV with Pepsi MTV Wassup, The Voice of Youngistaan, an informative show for young people.
He has also worked in many other MTV shows such as MTV Fully Faltoo Films, Check De India and Jaadoo Ek Baar. He then shot television with a reality TV show based on the talents India's Got Talent on Colors TV that he co-anchored with Nikhil Chinapa and Stripped who gave the latest updates on the Indian television industry with MTV. At the end of the year, he was also the host of the reality show Music Ka Maha Muqqabla on STAR Plus.
In addition to hosting the second season of MTV Rock On and India's Got Talent on Colors, Khurrana was also part of the Extra Innings T20 anchor team for the first season of the Indian Premier League on SET Max with Gaurav Kapur, Samir Kochhar and Angad Bedi. Following which he accepted the offer to anchor the Just Dance reality TV show on STAR Plus.
In 2012, he made his Bollywood debut with Vicky Donor of Shoojit Sircaragainst Yami Gautam. The film marked the debut of actor John Abraham as a producer. He plays Vicky Arora, who marries a Bengali girl without telling him about his past as a sperm donor. Despite its small budget, the film became a major commercial success and was critically acclaimed. For the film, he also sang the song "Pani Da Rang" composed by him and Rochak Kohli.
The film and the song were both well received. Khurrana has been critically acclaimed for his performance. Taran Adarsh notes: "Ayushmann is a complete natural, has all the attributes of a good actor and offers super confident performance." Gaurav Malani adds that Khurrana "is so natural that he never seems to act, but rather slips into the game. He is a comedy pro and emotional scenes."
