Harris Jayaraj (born January 8, 1975) is a composer of Indian films from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He mainly composes scores and soundtracks for Tamil films, while making some films in Telugu and Hindi.

Youth

Harris Jayaraj grew up in Chennai, he was born into a middle-class Tamil family. [1] He studied at Krishnaswamy Matric School, K. K. Nagar. His father, S. M. Jayakumar, was a recognized film guitarist and assistant to music director Malayalam Shyam and later became a musician and a film composer. At the age of six, Harris began his formal training in carnatic music. His father wanted him to become a guitarist and teach him the classical guitar of Mr.A.Abdul Sattar.Harris obtained the highest score in Asia during his fourth year of the Trinity College of Music in London.

He began his guitar career in 1987 at the age of twelve. He started playing the keyboard and developed an interest in synthesizers. He then began programming with his Roland MC-500 and worked as a programmer under more than twenty-five music directors in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam, working in more than 600 projects until 2000. [6] He has worked under the direction of renowned composers such as Raj-Koti, A. Rahman, Mani Sharma, Karthik Raja, Vidyasagar. While working as an additional programmer under Rahman, he composed music for various television commercials, including a Coca-Cola ad featuring actor Vijay. In his early years he admired the music composers Mr. Viswanathan, percussionist Aruljothi Balagopal, A. Rahman and Hans Zimmer.

Film career

Harris made his debut as a film composer with Minnale of Gautham Menon. The album was well received, especially the song Vaseegara was exceptionally popular. He received the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director - Tamil for his work in Minnale, defeating A. Rahman's 9-year continuous record. The following music albums 12B and Majunu were greeted and congratulated. He also composed for the Hindi remake of Minnale titled Rehnaa Hai Earth Dil Mein, also directed by Gautham Menon. Most of the tunes of the Tamil version were kept in the Hindi version as well, and only two fresh tunes were composed. He then worked in Lesa Lesa directed by Priyadarshan. The title track of Lesa Lesa was the first song in India to be released as a single before the release of an album from the soundtrack of the film (The First Single released before an album was Anaida "hotline.") Harris made his Telugu debut with Vasu. He received the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director - Tamil, the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Music Director and ITFA's Best Music Director for Kaakha Kaakha, with Suriya and Jyothika. This film directed by Gautham Menon was a huge commercial success and songs The song Uyirin Uyire reused as Cheliya Cheliya in Telugu and Khwabon Khwabon in Hindi had effective use of the words of gibberish which later became a signature element in the songs from Harris.

Harris once again teamed up with director Jeeva on Ullam Ketkumae after 12B. The music was appreciated for its excellence and synergy with the atmosphere in and out of the film. magnum opus Anniyan. It was the first time that Shankar did not team up with A. R. Rahman. Shankar later mentioned that working with Harris was an experiment [The soundtrack album received several awards, including the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Music Director and the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director in Tamil. The next film he scored is Ghajini directed by AR Murugadoss, for which he received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Music Director. The critics noted that the album had "sparkling, party jump numbers," which resulted in a huge commercial success in audio sales; the title "Sutum Vizhi" went through 20 million downloads and proved to be a phenomenal success. [] Harris designed a necessary classiness in the hit thriller of Gautham Menon Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu with Kamal Haasan. Gautham revealed that he shares the entire script with Harris and provides comments on his side.
